Stadtbäume für Berlin (Stadtbaumkampagne)

Senatsverwaltung für Mobilität, Verkehr, Klimaschutz und Umwelt, Berlin · Berlin

Donations toward new street trees (500 euros funded one tree, the state paid the rest) are suspended indefinitely since November 2026; planting continues

A Berlin Senate campaign launched on 7 November 2012 with the districts to plant extra street trees and narrow the gap between felled and replaced trees. Residents could donate any amount; once 500 euros was collected for a tree the state budget covered the remaining cost (about 3,000 euros per tree including roughly three years of care), and each campaign tree got a sign for about three years. The campaign reports around 19,000 new street trees and about 3.47 million euros in donations by 2026.

Mein Baum – Meine Stadt

Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg (BUKEA) with Loki Schmidt Stiftung · Hamburg

Donate any amount toward a specific empty street-tree site; once 500 euros is reached the city pays the rest (about 3,500 euros total) and plants the tree

Hamburg's street-tree donation campaign, running since 2011 in cooperation with the Loki Schmidt Stiftung, which checks that donations reach street trees and advises donors on choosing a location. Donors pick an empty tree site on an online map; when 500 euros has been collected for that site from one or several donors, the city guarantees planting of a nursery tree (10 to 15 years old, 18 to 25 cm trunk circumference) and covers the remaining cost. Over 5,300 tree gaps have been filled since 2011.

Projects can be flowers at the foot of street trees, open-ground planting after asphalt removal along building fronts or kerbs, or ground-level planters where open ground is not possible. The permit is free; the City does any ground works and brings topsoil, and the permit holder buys the plants and maintains the site year-round.
