SRP Shade Tree Program

馃嚭馃嚫 Phoenix, AZ, United States 路 Salt River Project (SRP) with Trees Matter

Two free desert-adapted shade trees (2- to 6-foot saplings) after a free online workshop

SRP gives residential electric customers two free desert-adapted shade trees after they complete a free virtual workshop run with the nonprofit Trees Matter. Species include native and thornless mesquite, palo verde, desert willow, willow acacia, and lilac chaste tree, and they are meant to be planted on the south, west, or east side of the home to cut cooling costs. Trees are picked up at distribution events in spring and fall.

Who qualifies

Must be a current residential SRP electric customer, attend a Shade Tree workshop, have the legal right to plant trees on the property, plant on the south, west, or east side about 15-20 feet from walls and windows, be able to care for the trees, and not have previously received trees for that property from the program.

How to apply

Register for a workshop at srp.net/shadetrees. Virtual workshops are held January-February for spring pick-up and July-August for fall pick-up; recent dates were January 24 and February 14, 2026. Call Arizona 811 before planting. Trees Matter: (602) 325-1254 or shadetree@treesmatter.org.
