TreeRM will build free software for the organizations in this directory, but nothing is being built yet. First we're asking. Which tool comes first depends on two things: how badly groups say they need it, and how many of them do that kind of work. Both numbers are below, and they'll move as answers come in.
Tree adoption event software
CandidateResidents scan a QR code in line, confirm eligibility, take a short care quiz, and pick trees from live inventory. Volunteers hand them over at the front.
Why: The problem TreeRM grew out of. Inventory moves in minutes and a wrong count sends someone home empty-handed. Most groups run this on spreadsheets and shouting.

Scores appear once there are survey responses. Order until then is our best guess.
Events page and feed publisher
CandidateA hosted events page for an organization with an iCal feed and schema.org markup, so people, calendars and directories like this one can find its events.
Why: Of 51 organizations researched, only 5 publish a machine-readable calendar. Most volunteer days live in newsletters and screenshots.

Planting and survival tracker
CandidateLog each planting site and tree on a phone, then record survival checks at 1, 3 and 5 years. Produces the survival rate almost nobody publishes.
Why: Survival is the rarest figure in the directory and the one funders should ask for most. The Ethiopia and Great Green Wall debates are about exactly this.

Nursery inventory
CandidateSeed lots, propagation batches, pots on the ground, trees promised to events. Simple counts that stay right.
Why: Every adoption event and planting day starts with what's actually in the nursery.

Season impact report
CandidatePulls an organization's year into a one-page report with trees, hectares, volunteers and survival, in the format TreeRM and funders can read.
Why: Reports are PDFs full of infographics. Structured numbers would help the organization as much as the directory.

Volunteer shifts and check-in
CandidateShift sign-up, waivers, reminders and a one-tap check-in on event day. Hours roll up by person and season.
Why: Volunteer hours are the most commonly reported people figure and the most commonly mis-counted.

Score = average pain across the jobs a tool serves (1 to 5) × the share of directory organizations doing that kind of work × 20. Everything we build will be free and open, and will link back to each organization's own systems rather than replace them.
