Free Native Plants Program
馃嚘馃嚭 Brisbane, QLD, Australia 路 Brisbane City Council
2 free native plants per residential property each financial year (4 one-off for recently built homes in eligible suburbs; up to 50 for schools on Arbor Day)
Brisbane City Council gives residential properties in the council area free native plants grown by community nurseries. Owners of houses, townhouses, duplexes and apartments get a stamped voucher and redeem it at a participating nursery or environment centre. Plants must go on private property (or on council-leased land for lessees).
Who qualifies
Residential properties in the Brisbane City Council area; hotels, motels and retirement villages are excluded, as are commercial businesses, universities, TAFEs and government departments. Renters can collect on behalf of the owner with written owner approval. Homes built within the past 12 months in listed eligible suburbs get a one-off allocation of 4 plants. Lessees on council-leased land can get up to 20; schools up to 50 for Arbor Day; one plant per new citizen at citizenship ceremonies.
How to apply
Take your current-year rates notice (or written owner approval) to a Customer Centre, library, Mobile Library or ward office to get a stamped voucher, then redeem all of the year's plants in one visit at City Farm Nursery (Windsor), B4C Sustainability Centre (Carindale), Daly's Native Plants (Mansfield), Paten Park Native Nursery (The Gap) or a council environment centre. Recently built homes email the Free Native Plants team with the final inspection certificate; lessees and citizenship-ceremony plants are applied for online.
