Landowner services (project forester visits and management plans)
馃嚭馃嚫 SC, United States 路 South Carolina Forestry Commission
Free site visit, written management plan and reforestation and timber marketing advice from a county project forester for owners of 10 to 1,000 acres of woodland
South Carolina Forestry Commission project foresters walk a landowner's property and recommend ways to manage it for timber income, wildlife habitat and other goals, then write a management plan with a property map, woodland description and recommendations. They also advise on reforesting cutover or open land (vegetation control, species, spacing, finding a contractor, ordering seedlings and applying for cost-share) and on marketing timber (competitive bids, buyer lists, sample sale announcements and contracts). Basic forest management services are normally limited to five man-days per landowner per year; the Commission also offers fee-based services and equipment rentals.
Who qualifies
Forest landowners with 10 to 1,000 acres of woodland can request a forester visit. Owners of fewer than 10 acres get general advice and are referred to mylandplan.org and the Clemson Extension Master Tree Farmer program; owners of larger tracts may be advised to hire a consulting or industry forester.
