Request A City Tree (Tree Planting Program)

馃嚭馃嚫 Detroit, MI, United States 路 City of Detroit General Services Department, Forestry Division

A city-planted street tree on the berm (the strip between sidewalk and street) in your neighborhood

Detroit's Forestry Division plants thousands of trees a year on residential berms, streets, parks and other public right-of-way, as funding allows. Residents can ask for a tree to be planted in their neighborhood through the Request A City Tree online form. Planting locations are chosen using canopy data, available space, utility clearances, site inspections and resident requests.

Who qualifies

The city pages do not state who may submit a request. Trees are planted in the public right-of-way (the berm), not on private property; the city notes the berm is "generally part of the public right-of-way, making it the primary location for City street tree planting."

How to apply

Submit the Request A City Tree form (Smartsheet) linked from the Tree Planting Program page, or call the Tree Planting Program at 313-628-0229. General forestry questions: (313) 871-5461.
