MOREwoods

馃嚞馃嚙 United Kingdom 路 Woodland Trust (funded by Lloyds Bank)

Up to 75% of the cost of trees, protection and advice for 0.5 ha or more of new woodland (up to 60% if a contractor plants)

A Woodland Trust scheme that subsidises new woodland on private land. The Trust provides a site visit, woodland design, species mix, the trees, tree protection and advisor support; the landowner pays the balance, roughly 40-80p per tree plus VAT when self-planting. Contractor planting is available for sites of 1 ha or more in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Who qualifies

Landowners or farmers in the UK planting at least 0.5 ha of new woodland at 1,000-1,600 trees per hectare (so 500+ trees), in blocks of at least 0.1 ha or shelterbelts at least 4 m wide. Not for restocking existing woodland or land felled in the last 5 years, and not if the planting is already funded elsewhere. Someone else can apply with the landowner's permission.

How to apply

Apply online via the MOREwoods application page; applications are reviewed by a fortnightly panel and the Trust aims to respond within 8 weeks. An advisor then assesses the site and issues a cost estimate; you sign an agreement and pay within six weeks. Trees are delivered between November and March.
