The Woodland Trust gives free sapling packs to schools, councils and not-for-profit community groups to plant on land they have permission to use. Packs come in eight species mixes, with trees 20-60 cm tall; tree protection is not included. There are two deliveries a year, in March and November.
Who qualifies
Any educational establishment, local authority or not-for-profit community group (for example resident associations, sports clubs, faith groups, scouts and guides) based in England, Scotland or Wales. Northern Ireland has a separate Woodland Trust scheme. You need the legal landowner's permission for the planting site.
How to apply
Find the six-figure grid reference for the site, get landowner permission, choose your pack(s) and complete the online application form. Applications for March 2027 delivery were open at time of checking and are expected to close in January; decisions within eight weeks.
