Free site visit and management advice from a DNR service forester for owners of 5 or more forested acres

DNR's Service Forestry Program, run with the USDA Forest Service, sends a forester to walk your land, assess forest health, point out problems and opportunities and recommend practices. With WSU Extension's coached planning classes, foresters help you write a Forest Stewardship Plan, which can qualify you for cost-share, current-use property tax programs and certification. The Small Forest Landowner Office also runs the Family Forest Fish Passage Program (replacing culverts) and the Forestry Riparian Easement Program (payment for a 40-year easement on qualifying streamside timber).

Who qualifies

Forestland owners of 5 or more acres are eligible for a site visit at no cost; owners of smaller parcels may get a visit depending on forester availability or can get help by phone or email. The Small Forest Landowner Office serves owners of less than 5,000 acres.

How to apply

Use DNR's Find Your Forester tool (foresthealthtracker.dnr.wa.gov/FindYourForester) or contact the Service Forestry Program Manager at 360-819-7143 / matt.provencher@dnr.wa.gov. For other landowner programs email sflo@dnr.wa.gov. No deadline; there is no cost or obligation.
