Tree Adoption Program
馃嚭馃嚫 Pittsburgh, PA, United States 路 Tree Pittsburgh
Free trees and shrubs in 2-gallon containers at pickup events each fall and spring
Tree Pittsburgh gives away trees and shrubs at no cost to residents throughout Allegheny County at pickup events each fall and spring. About 25 species are offered, such as sugar maple, white oak, eastern redbud and winterberry, though not every species is at every event. Plants come in 2-gallon containers with planting guidance.
Who qualifies
Residents of Allegheny County. Property owners in highlighted qualifying communities with room for 10 or more trees can use a separate direct-distribution form; that form closed for Spring 2026 and reopens for Fall 2026 in late summer.
How to apply
Register for an event through the links on the Tree Adoption page; registrations fill quickly and selected low-canopy communities get early access before public release. If an event is sold out you can still come at the end for unclaimed trees.
