ODF Stewardship Foresters and Small Forestland Owner Office

馃嚭馃嚫 OR, United States 路 Oregon Department of Forestry

Free technical help from a local ODF stewardship forester, plus cost-share of up to 75% for a stewardship plan and up to 50% for bark beetle treatment

Oregon Department of Forestry stewardship foresters give free technical assistance to private forest landowners and small woodland owners on operation planning, management plans, rules, best practices, insects and disease, reforestation, young-stand management and financial incentives. Through the Forest Stewardship Program, ODF reimburses up to 75 percent of the cost of a stewardship plan written by a professional consultant (minimum 10 acres, pre-approval required). The Small Forestland Owner Office connects owners of under 5,000 acres to these programs, to SFISH stream-habitat grants that can pay up to 100 percent of project costs, and to the Forest Conservation Tax Credit.

Who qualifies

Any private forest landowner can consult a stewardship forester. Plan cost-share requires a plan of at least 10 acres approved by the local ODF stewardship forester. Small Forestland Owner programs are for owners of less than 5,000 acres of Oregon forestland who harvest less than an average of 2 million board feet per year. Bark beetle cost-share funds are subject to local availability.

How to apply

Use ODF's Find a Forester page to reach your local stewardship forester, email forest.landownerhelp@odf.oregon.gov or call 503-945-7200. For plan cost-share, get ODF approval before hiring a consultant and submit the cost-share application and signature page. Small Forestland Owner Office: smallforestlandowneroffice@odf.oregon.gov.
