State Conservation Nurseries (Washoe and Las Vegas) seedling sales
馃嚭馃嚫 NV, United States 路 Nevada Division of Forestry
Native and locally adapted tree, shrub, grass and wildflower seedlings for conservation plantings, sold at state nurseries in Washoe Valley and Las Vegas
The Nevada Division of Forestry has run a nursery program since 1957 that sells native and adapted plant materials and gives technical advice so private landowners and public agencies can plant windbreaks, shelterbelts, woodlots, erosion control, wildlife food and cover, post-fire restoration and riparian restoration. The Washoe Conservation Nursery (885 Eastlake Blvd., Washoe Valley, between Carson City and Reno) grows plants for the Great Basin and Sierra Nevada; the Las Vegas Conservation Nursery (9600 Tule Springs Rd.) grows plants for the Mojave Desert. Each nursery can produce up to 250,000 plants a year, and plants are typically sold as seedlings 1 to 3 years old. The program also holds plant sales twice a year at the NDF Elko Arboretum and offers custom growing.
Who qualifies
Plants bought at the Washoe Nursery must be used for conservation purposes as provided in NRS 528.105. No other buyer requirements are stated on the current nursery pages. A state regulation (NAC 528.110) has required that plants bought for conservation be planted on a parcel of 1 acre or more lying entirely outside the limits of any incorporated city; in March 2024 NDF held a public workshop on repealing that regulation.
