Low-cost container seedlings of more than 60 species, $95 per lot of 49, for conservation plantings in New Mexico
The Forestry Division sells low-cost seedlings grown in 10-cubic-inch containers, more than 60 species, for plantings that support forest and watershed health in New Mexico. Fall distribution is the main option: seedlings are sold in lots of 49 per species at $95 per lot, plus a $5 handling fee per order and $50 per lot shipping if delivery is chosen. Spring distribution requires orders larger than six lots (294 seedlings per species). Because demand exceeds supply, the division asks buyers to submit requests one to two years ahead; a smaller same-year inventory is sold online at a higher price.
Who qualifies
Seedlings must be used for conservation plantings within New Mexico, such as reforestation, wind protection, urban and community forestry, rangeland or forest restoration, erosion control, streambank or floodplain restoration, nursery up-pot, or cultural and traditional use. You must state the planting's primary purpose, zip code and approximate elevation. No acreage requirement is stated on the current pages.
How to apply
Submit the online Seedling Request Form (Smartsheet) 12 months ahead for fall distribution or 12 to 18 months ahead for spring; no payment is due at submission and payment may begin July 1 before the distribution season. Same-year fall orders are placed on the online ordering platform from the first Monday in July through mid-October, with payment at ordering; after paying online you must click 'Finalize Payment' on the receipt page or the order is not recorded. Paper order forms are no longer accepted. Checks payable to New Mexico Forestry Division; purchase orders accepted from schools and government agencies; all sales final. Help: Gwen.Wion@emnrd.nm.gov or your Forestry Division district office.
