Meer Bomen Nu – free second-chance trees
🇳🇱 Netherlands · Urgenda with Stichting MEERGroen and Caring Farmers
Free rescued tree and shrub seedlings for anyone with space to plant them, plus free species advice; pick up at local hubs between November and March
Meer Bomen Nu is a national campaign by Urgenda, Stichting MEERGroen and Caring Farmers that moves over half a million young trees and shrubs each winter from places where they cannot grow (such as under mature forest) to new sites. Volunteers dig up seedlings at harvest days; anyone with land registers as a planting location and collects free trees from hubs listed in the online Bomenplanner. Registered users get free planting advice (Bomenvinder) matched to their soil type.
Who qualifies
Anyone can collect free trees and shrubs. Landowners, farmers, businesses, schools and organisations with ground to green register as a 'plantlocatie'. No minimum quantity is stated.
How to apply
Register as a planting location at bomenplanner.meerbomen.nu/plantlocaties/aanmelden, then use the Bomenplanner calendar to find pick-up, harvest and planting events near you. To volunteer at harvest days, sign up at bomenplanner.meerbomen.nu/vrijwilligers. Hub, regional and city pages (e.g. meerbomen.nu/regios/utrecht) list local pick-up points.
