Bare-root hardwood and conifer seedlings from the two state nurseries, sold online at $40 per lot ($65 for large stock) and shipped January through April
The Division of Forestry runs two state nurseries, at Gilbertsville in Marshall County and Grassy Creek in Morgan County, growing about 1.25 million seedlings a year for planting on public and private land in Kentucky. The page lists uses such as planting open crop or pasture land, Christmas tree plantations, wildlife habitat, urban areas and surface mine reclamation. The online store for spring 2027 lists roughly 40 species, most at $40.00 and large-stock versions at $65.00; pawpaw and eastern redbud are capped at 100 seedlings and flowering dogwood at 300.
Who qualifies
The agency says seedlings are available to Kentucky landowners at a reasonable price; no other eligibility rules are stated. Orders of more than 10,000 seedlings should go through a Division branch office.
How to apply
Order online at secure2.kentucky.gov/InventoryServices/Forestry/Seedlings; the store opened October 1 for the spring 2027 season and seedlings are shipped to individuals from January through April. Pine species are not available to order until March 1. Email KYSeedlingSales@ky.gov with sales questions; the agency asks that you not contact the nurseries directly. Contact your regional office for help with species selection.
