Community Forestry Neighborhood Tree Planting
馃嚭馃嚫 Indianapolis, IN, United States 路 Keep Indianapolis Beautiful
30 or more 1-inch-caliper trees planted along a neighborhood's streets, with three years of care by KIB for right-of-way trees
Keep Indianapolis Beautiful plants roughly 3,000 trees a year in public spaces, mostly in the strip between sidewalk and street, in partnership with the City of Indianapolis. Neighborhoods organize a planting by identifying at least 30 plantable spots and submitting a Tree Planting Application. KIB supplies the trees, tools and mulch, handles permits and utility locates, and leads volunteers on planting day.
Who qualifies
"If your neighborhood is located within the City of Indianapolis, you can apply for 30+ trees." Neighbors must agree to watering: 15 gallons per tree per week from late March through November for three years. KIB waters trees in the public right-of-way; trees in common areas (schools, churches, HOA land) must be watered by residents.
How to apply
Walk the neighborhood and find at least 30 planting spaces; email trees@kibi.org or call (317) 264-7555 to express interest; recruit a small planning group using KIB's "Free Trees Coming Soon" door hangers; compile planting addresses; then complete the Tree Planting Application at kibi.org/request/trees/. A virtual workshop (also in Spanish) is linked from the application page.
