Low-priced bare-root pine, hardwood and shrub seedlings for conservation plantings in Indiana, minimum 100 per species
Indiana DNR's Vallonia and Jasper-Pulaski state nurseries grow pine, hardwood and shrub seedlings for Indiana landowners, with prices kept low to encourage conservation plantings. Conifers are usually 4 to 14 inches tall and hardwoods and shrubs 4 to 24 inches. Orders open the first business day in October and are accepted until supplies run out; some species sell out early. Seedlings are shipped by FedEx or picked up at either nursery, and planting instructions come with each shipment. The nurseries advise against using their seedlings for Christmas tree plantings.
Who qualifies
By ordering you agree to plant the seedlings in Indiana and not resell them. The minimum order is 100 per species or one packet. The nurseries may substitute species unless told otherwise.
How to apply
Order from the first business day in October using the order form on the Instructions and Order Forms page (Vallonia State Nursery, P.O. Box 218, Vallonia, IN 47281; 812-358-3621; vallonianursery@dnr.IN.gov; Jasper-Pulaski 219-843-4827). Do not send payment with the order; an invoice arrives about two weeks after processing and must be paid by its due date (card by phone, check, cash or money order) or the order is cancelled. March 1 is the last day to cancel for a refund (processing fee non-refundable); April 1 is the last day to change shipping method or pickup location. FedEx will not deliver to a PO box.
