Forests Canada Planting Program (50 Million Tree Program)
馃嚚馃嚘 Canada 路 Forests Canada
Subsidized large-scale tree planting on private land, planned and planted by a local planting partner
Forests Canada's landowner planting program lowers the cost of planting trees on private property. Eligible project types are afforestation, riparian buffers, windbreaks and forest restoration. A local planting partner (forestry consultant, conservation authority or stewardship group) visits the site, prepares a plan and cost estimate, plants the trees and checks survival in years two and five.
Who qualifies
Private landowners whose project meets the program's minimum planting size; the FAQ says project types may be combined on your land to reach the minimum requirement but does not state the hectare figure. The programs page describes the minimum as 500+ trees. Landowners may be required to contribute to the cost or provide an in-kind contribution; cost varies with area, species and stock type.
How to apply
Apply through the Forests Canada website (Programs > Plant Trees With Us). A Restoration Team member or local planting partner responds in about 10-12 business days, then arranges a site visit, a preliminary plan and cost estimate, and a project agreement. Phone 416-646-1193 or 1-877-646-1193.
