Reforestation Program (Neighborhood Parkway and Median Trees)

馃嚭馃嚫 Dallas, TX, United States 路 City of Dallas Planning and Development Department, City Arborist

Free 15-gallon trees (1.5 to 4 inch caliper) delivered for planting on neighborhood parkways and public property, organized through a planting group

The City of Dallas buys trees with its Urban Reforestation Fund and delivers them for planting on public property, including the parkway strip between the curb and the property line in front of homes. Projects must be sponsored by a planting group such as a neighborhood or community group; individual residents fill out an individual application and lot plot that the group attaches to its group application. City arborists approve species and locations and the group plants and maintains the trees.

Who qualifies

Trees must be planted on public property (city land, recreation centers, public schools, approved medians, city rights-of-way and parkways). Projects must be sponsored wholly or in part by a planting group; the group must provide volunteers to plant and commit to maintaining the trees for at least two years. Species must come from the 2026/2027 approved list unless the city arborist approves another. Trees cannot be used to meet ordinance mitigation or landscape requirements.

How to apply

Download the 2026-2027 program packet, complete the group application with attached individual applications and lot plots, and send to Chief Arborist, City of Dallas, 320 E Jefferson Blvd., Room 105, Dallas, TX 75203. Applications for planting dates through December 2026 were due by November 1; a complete proposal is needed at least one month before the planting date. First come, first served. Contact: Arborist Manager Phil Erwin, 214-948-4117, Philip.erwin@dallas.gov.
