Afforestation Scheme 2023-2027

🇮🇪 Ireland · Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (Forestry Programme 2023-2027)

100% establishment grant (e.g. €6,744/ha for Native Forests) plus annual premiums (e.g. €1,103/ha for Native Forests) for 20 years for farmers or 15 years for non-farmers

Ireland's national afforestation grant under the Forestry Programme 2023-2027. It covers establishment costs for twelve forest types, from Native Forests (FT1) and Pure Broadleaves (FT6) to agroforestry and mixed conifer-broadleaf forests, and pays an annual per-hectare premium for 20 years (farmers) or 15 years (non-farmers); agroforestry types get 10 years. Additional fencing, deer-protection and environment-report grants are available, and FT1 and FT2 qualify for a once-off Woodland Environmental Fund payment.

Who qualifies

Farmers and non-farmers who own land in Ireland. An afforestation licence is required and a Registered Forester must prepare the application. Rates vary by forest type: FT1 Native Forests €6,744/ha grant and €1,103/ha premium; FT6 oak/beech €6,744 and €1,037; FT7 Other Broadleaves €4,314 and €973; FT12 spruce with 20% broadleaves €3,858 and €746.

How to apply
