Colorado State Forest Service Seedling Tree Nursery
馃嚭馃嚫 CO, United States 路 Colorado State Forest Service
Low-cost Colorado-grown bare-root and container seedlings (about $26 to $36 per bundle of 25 in spring 2026) for windbreaks, wildlife habitat and reforestation on one or more acres
The CSFS nursery on CSU's Foothills Campus in Fort Collins grows native and adapted trees and shrubs for conservation planting. Landowners order through their local CSFS field office or conservation district; forms come out in mid-November and trees are delivered in early May. The spring 2026 order form listed bare-root bundles of 25 at $25.75 for conservation-district cooperators and $36.00 retail. A donor-funded Restoring Colorado's Forests Fund gives no-cost seedlings to owners of previously forested land hit by wildfire or other disasters (2026 applications June 1 to September 30).
Who qualifies
Landowners with one or more acres of land. Seedlings are for conservation use: buyers agree not to use them for ornamental or landscaping purposes and may not resell them as living plants.
How to apply
Contact your local CSFS field office or conservation district to get on the order-form mailing list; the spring 2026 form was emailed to CSFS_Trees@colostate.edu and processed first come, first served. Nursery phone 970-491-8429. For free disaster-recovery seedlings, talk to a CSFS forester, then submit the Restoring Colorado's Forests Fund application.
