Up to $3,000 for replacing healthy turf grass with native and adapted plant beds
Austin Water pays residential customers to convert lawn to native and adapted plant beds, which can include trees and shrubs planted in the fall window. Work must be pre-approved and installed during the spring or fall planting windows. Multi-family and HOA applicants have a separate application.
Who qualifies
Customers who receive water from Austin Water or one of 17 listed partner providers. At least 75% of the conversion area must have healthy turf grass; dead lawns do not qualify. Any work started before Austin Water approval does not qualify.
How to apply
Apply for pre-approval through Austin Water's online Conservation Hub before starting work, then install plants during the spring or fall installation window and submit completion photos and receipts. Rebates are typically paid within six to eight weeks; fall rebates are not issued before Oct. 1. Help: watercon@austintexas.gov or 512-974-2199, option 4.
