The Understorey Network started in 1994 to put shrubs, grasses and groundcovers back under Tasmania's replanted trees, since a forest with no understorey feeds little. Its nursery in Glenorchy propagates more than 180 species, its database covers 1,800 Tasmanian plants with lists by municipality, and its Growers Scheme teaches members to raise natives at home. Volunteers are welcome at the nursery.
