Congressionally chartered U.S. Forest Service partner replanting millions of trees on National Forests each year
About
The National Forest Foundation (NFF) is the Missoula-based nonprofit partner of the U.S. Forest Service, chartered by Congress in 1990 to restore and enhance America's 193-million-acre National Forest System. Its Reforestation Program plants native seedlings in post-fire and insect-damaged landscapes, largely funded by corporate partners, small businesses in the Sapling Program and individual donors; in 2025 it completed a seven-year campaign that planted 50.4 million trees on 81 National Forests. The NFF also funds wildfire-resilience thinning, watershed and trail restoration, and community grants, and reported planting more than 7 million trees in fiscal 2025.
