**What you get:** A boulevard tree planted, watered and mulched by a city-hired contractor, plus a free watering bag; the permit is free

Saint Paul Forestry accepts requests from property owners for a boulevard tree next to their property during the spring and fall planting seasons. Forestry inspects the boulevard, picks the species and location, and a contractor plants, waters and mulches the tree. Funds and trees are limited, so not every request is filled.

## Who qualifies

Property owners may request a tree on the boulevard adjacent to their property. "Requests will be denied if the boulevard does not meet the minimum planting criteria." The page warns "there are very limited funds or available trees to fill these requests."

## How to apply

Fill out the free tree permit application and send it to Forestry by email (forestry@ci.stpaul.mn.us), fax or mail (1100 Hamline Ave N, Saint Paul, MN 55108); phone 651-266-6400, Mon-Fri 7:30 am-3:30 pm. Forestry contacts you with the planting location and species; residents are notified up to a month before planting, usually by door hanger. Call Gopher State One Call before any digging.

**When:** Spring (April-June) and fall (October-November) planting seasons

**For:** Homeowners

> Note: Funding is described as very limited. Saint Paul residents can also apply for Tree Trust giveaway trees for private property (see the Tree Trust entry).
