**What you get:** City contractors plant and care for a street tree in the planting strip next to your property for three years at no cost

Portland Urban Forestry plants up to 1,250 street trees each winter in the planting strips of selected neighborhoods, funded mainly by the Portland Clean Energy Fund. Contractors water, mulch, weed, and prune the trees for three years, after which the adjacent property owner takes over care. Eligible owners receive a letter and can opt out before September 15.
