**What you get:** Enrolled forest land is taxed at 25% of the municipal residential property tax rate

An Ontario program that lowers property tax on forested land for owners who prepare and follow an approved Managed Forest Plan. Enrolled land is classed as managed forest and taxed at 25% of the residential rate; the house and landscaped areas stay at the regular rate. Plans run ten years, with a progress report at year five.

## Who qualifies

At least 4 hectares (9.88 acres) of forest on a single Ontario property under one municipal roll number, owned by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, Canadian business, trust or conservation authority, with a minimum number of trees per hectare set out in the program guide. Residences, landscaped areas and land in other uses are excluded.

## How to apply

Review the program guide, hire a Managed Forest Plan Approver to inspect the property and prepare or review your plan, give the approver the application form and your latest property assessment notice, and the approver submits the plan online. Deadline to add new land for the following tax year is June 30; a confirmation usually arrives in late fall and the change takes effect January 1.

**When:** Applications due June 30 for the following taxation year

**For:** Landowners, Farmers

> Note: Landowners pay the approver's fee for the plan. Minimum trees per hectare is in the program guide, not on the page.
