**What you get:** A DNR district forester will visit your woods and recommend a course of action, and can enroll you in tax-incentive and cost-share programs

Every Indiana county is covered by one of the Division of Forestry's 20 cooperative forest management districts. District foresters are professionally trained to manage forestland and can start a landowner off by visiting the woods and recommending a best course of action to meet the owner's goals. They administer state and federal programs offering technical assistance, property tax incentives (Classified Forest and Wildlands) and cost-share incentives (Forestry BMP Cost-Share Program) for sustainable management.

## Who qualifies

Indiana private woodland owners; the district forester page states no acreage threshold or fee. Classified Forest and Wildlands enrollees receive free technical assistance.

## How to apply

Find your county on the District Foresters page or its interactive map and call or email the forester listed (for example Monroe and Owen counties 812-829-2462; Marion, Hamilton and Hendricks counties 812-988-7945). For vacant districts 2 and 3 (northeast Indiana) call the Salamonie River State Forest office at 260-782-0430. General questions: State Information Center 1-800-457-8283.
