**What you get:** A free street tree planted in the city right-of-way in front of your home

City of Charlotte residents can ask the city to plant a free tree in the planting strip between the sidewalk and street, or in the right-of-way if there is no sidewalk. An inspector visits to confirm there is room; qualifying addresses go on the list for an upcoming planting season. The city plants between January and April each year.

## Who qualifies

The location must be in the City of Charlotte right-of-way (the grass strip between sidewalk and street). If there is no sidewalk, call 704-336-4262 to confirm the right-of-way. The inspector decides whether a tree can be planted.

## How to apply

Fill out the online Street Tree Request Form, call 311 (704-336-7600 from outside Mecklenburg County), or email landscapemanagement@charlottenc.gov. Planting a right-of-way tree yourself requires a no-cost permit; planting without one results in a notice of violation and a fine.

**When:** Requests accepted year-round; planting January through April

**For:** Homeowners, Renters

> Note: The page does not say how long the wait is once an address is on the planting list.
