**What you get:** A channel to ask the city about trees in the public right-of-way, including empty tree wells and replacement plantings

Austin does not run a dedicated 'request a street tree' program. The city's Tree Information Center directs right-of-way tree questions to Austin 3-1-1, and 311 'Tree Issue Right of Way' tickets are used by residents to ask for new or replacement trees in empty sidewalk tree wells. Austin Transportation and Public Works can determine whether a tree or planting site is in the right-of-way.

## Who qualifies

Anyone in Austin can submit a 3-1-1 request; renters can report a site near where they live.

## How to apply

Call 3-1-1 (512-974-2000 from outside Austin), use the Austin 311 app, or submit online at 311.austintexas.gov and describe the location and the empty tree well or planting request. Requests are routed to the responsible department.

**For:** Homeowners, Renters, Businesses

> Note: No official page describes a resident street-tree planting program; the 311 route is inferred from the city's Tree Information Center directory and public 311 tickets. A city technical advisory group presented recommendations in October to make street trees easier to plant, so the process may change.
