**What you get:** Free forest management plan and technical help from Forestry Division foresters for private owners of 10 or more forested acres

Private landowners with at least 10 acres of forest can get a forest management plan prepared at no cost by a multi-disciplinary team of natural resource professionals, followed by technical assistance to carry it out. Landowners who make significant progress can be nominated and certified as forest stewards, receiving a certificate and a sign. Separately, Forestry Division foresters offer free technical assistance on request: land examinations, written management plans, sample timber sale contracts and market lists, insect and disease help, information on cost-share programs covering 50 percent or more of tree planting and timber stand improvement costs, and timber tax information. Fire lane construction ($85 per hour) and prescribed burning ($50 per acre, $575 minimum) are fee-based.
