## About

Trillion Trees Australia is a Western Australian not-for-profit founded in 1979 as Men of the Trees WA, part of the movement started by Richard St Barbe Baker in 1922, and renamed in 2019. From its Hazelmere base it runs a community native plant nursery (established 1987, producing 150,000-200,000 plants a year), landscape restoration projects along the Helena and Swan rivers, in the Wheatbelt and in Chittering, free community planting days, and the SPROUT! schools program that has involved more than 120,000 students. It says it has planted over 15 million native trees and understorey plants across Western Australia; in 2024-25 it planted 42,899 trees on 22.6 hectares.

## Programs

- **Restoration projects and community planting days** — Reforestation: Riparian and woodland restoration at Guildford Meadows, Reg Bond Reserve (Viveash), Dabakarn (Chittering), Wagin and other WA sites, planted largely by volunteers at free winter community planting days. https://trilliontrees.org.au/get-involved/events
- **Hazelmere community native plant nursery** — Nurseries & seedlings (1987–present): Volunteer-run nursery established in 1987 that propagates more than 200 WA native species for its own projects, councils, friends groups and landholders. https://trilliontrees.org.au/what-we-do/native-plant-nursery
- **SPROUT! Trillion Trees Schools Program** — Education & advocacy (1980–present): School program running since 1980 in which students grow and plant native seedlings; over 120,000 young people have taken part.

## Metrics

> Note: The 15 million cumulative figure counts native trees and understorey plants since 1979 and has been quoted unchanged since at least 2018. The 2024-25 annual report's infographic says 150k plants grown while its nursery text says almost 200,000 plants were produced in the same year; the infographic figure is recorded. The organisation was Men of the Trees WA until 2019.
