## About

Trees That Count is a New Zealand charity (Trees That Count Te Rahi o Tāne Trust) launched in 2016 by the Project Crimson Trust, which has protected pōhutukawa and rātā since 1990. It runs an online marketplace where individuals and businesses fund native trees that are then allocated to vetted community planting groups, iwi and landowners around the country. The charity reports more than 3.3 million native trees funded since 2016 across more than 1,800 projects.

## Programs

- **Project Crimson** — Reforestation (1990–present): Original conservation programme of the trust, protecting and planting pōhutukawa and rātā since 1990; over 300,000 trees planted before Trees That Count launched. https://www.treesthatcount.co.nz/project-crimson-trust

## Metrics

| Metric | Year | Value | Cumulative | Program | Confidence | Source |
|---|---|---:|---|---|---|---|
| Trees planted | 2021 | 220,000 | no (that year) | organization-wide | Self-reported | [source](https://rewildingmag.com/trees-that-count-has-planted-one-million-trees-and-theyre-just-getting-started) Same 2022 interview: 'Last year we gave out around 220,000 native trees' |
| Trees planted | 2022 | 500,000 | no (that year) | organization-wide | Self-reported | [source](https://rewildingmag.com/trees-that-count-has-planted-one-million-trees-and-theyre-just-getting-started) Rewilding Magazine interview, 29 Aug 2022: 'Last year we gave out around 220,000 native trees, and this year we're over 500,000'; cumulative passed 1 million in April 2022 |
| Trees planted | 2026 | 3,300,000 | yes (to date) | organization-wide | Self-reported | [source](https://givealittle.co.nz/org/treesthatcount) Trust's Givealittle profile: since 2016 supporters 'have enabled the planting of more than 3.3 million native trees'. DOC partner page states 'over 2.9 million native trees' across 'more than 1,800 projects' (likely older). Figures are trees funded via the marketplace, not a national count |

Confidence: self-reported is the organization's own published figure; independently verified means a third party confirmed it; estimated means TreeRM derived it and the note says how.
