## About

Trees on the Land is a cross-border, not-for-profit project of the Green Economy Foundation (Irish Natural Forestry Foundation CLG, registered charity 20055110) that supplies young native trees to farmers, schools, community groups, councils and landowners across all 32 counties of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Founded by Imogen Rabone, it began with a pilot that planted just over 100,000 trees in one day in spring 2013 and grew into an annual programme in which several hundred planting projects receive trees to plant between December and March. The project reports well over three million native trees planted since 2013; applications for the winter 2026 to spring 2027 season closed on 18 October 2026.

## Programs

- **Annual tree distribution and planting season** — Tree adoption & giveaways (2013–present): Landowners, schools and community groups apply in summer and autumn for free or low-cost native trees, which are distributed and planted between December and March. https://www.treesontheland.com/plant-trees

## Metrics

> Note: Trees on the Land publishes only cumulative totals: just over 100,000 trees in the 2013 pilot, over 1 million by May 2020 and more than 3 million by 2024-2026. It does not publish per-season distribution figures, so there is no recent annual metric. Trees are supplied to recipients who plant them, so figures are recorded as trees distributed. The project's parent charity is based in County Cork (registered address Kilnaclasha, Skibbereen; office at Myross Wood House, Leap); its founder is based in England.
