## About

Project Forest is a Sherwood Park, Alberta nonprofit founded in 2020 that 'rewilds' non-productive agricultural and other unused land into native forests, funded by corporate Community Investment Partners and planted on land offered by First Nations, conservation groups, municipalities, universities and private landowners. Its projects include the Siksika Nation Community Shelterbelt Program (a five-year plan for one million seedlings), Doig River and Swan River First Nation rewilding, the Alberta Motor Association Centennial Forests, Golden Ranches, Nutrien Forest and the University of Alberta Research Forest, with annual stocking surveys published for every site. It planted its one-millionth tree at Blackfoot Crossing on Siksika Nation in May 2026 and reports 958,295 seedlings on 416.6 hectares from 2020 through 2025, with sites in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Quebec.

## Programs

- **Rewilding projects (Land Partners)** — Afforestation (2020–present): Converts unused land offered by Land Partners (First Nations, conservation groups, municipalities, universities, private landowners) into species-rich native forests funded by corporate partners, with multi-year maintenance and monitoring; 16 forests planted through 2025. https://projectforest.ca/projects/
- **Siksika Nation Community Shelterbelt Program** — Agroforestry (2024–present): Five-year collaboration with Siksika Nation to plant one million seedlings as shelterbelts around homes, communities and agricultural land on the reserve, funded in part by Natural Resources Canada's 2 Billion Trees program, EPCOR, ATB and others. https://projectforest.ca/onemilliontrees/
- **Corporate Tree Planting Days** — Afforestation: Hands-on planting days at project sites for Silver, Gold and Platinum funding partners. https://projectforest.ca/corporate-tree-planting/

## Metrics

> Note: Project Forest counts seedlings planted, including shrubs, and its cumulative figure was 958,295 seedlings through 2025 before the one-millionth tree was planted at Siksika Nation in May 2026; the 2026 planting season total has not yet been published. The 2024 annual report's 2020-2024 total of 769,495 seedlings excluded part of the University of Alberta Research Forest planting that was completed in 2025. Natural Resources Canada's July 2025 backgrounder lists a separate 2 Billion Trees grant of $2,933,621 to Project Forest for one million new trees across Alberta.
