## About

Iniciativa Verde is a Brazilian nonprofit founded in 2005 in São Paulo that restores Atlantic Forest on rural properties, riparian preservation areas and conservation units. Its Carbon Free program offsets corporate emissions through forest restoration, it is one of the main proponents of São Paulo state's Programa Nascentes, and it runs the Amigo da Floresta, Plantando Águas and Restaura Ribeira programs with a field team of forest planters based in Cajati. Its 2022-23 report says more than 3,000 hectares have been restored over its history.

## Programs

- **Carbon Free** — Carbon offset planting (2005–present): Greenhouse-gas emissions of companies and events are offset through forest restoration projects; the program launched Iniciativa Verde's work in 2005. https://www.iniciativaverde.org.br/atuacao/carbon-free
- **Programa Nascentes** — Reforestation: Restoration projects under São Paulo state's Programa Nascentes, which lets licensees meet environmental conditions by funding forest restoration; Iniciativa Verde is one of its main proponents. https://www.iniciativaverde.org.br/atuacao/programa-nascentes
- **Amigo da Floresta** — Reforestation: Individual and corporate supporters fund native forest restoration on rural properties. https://www.iniciativaverde.org.br/atuacao/amigo-da-floresta
- **Restaura Ribeira** — Reforestation: Restoration in the Vale do Ribeira with Funbio funding. https://www.iniciativaverde.org.br/atuacao/restaura-ribeira

## Metrics

> Note: Iniciativa Verde reports its results in hectares rather than trees; its Quem Somos timeline mentions milestones of 1 million and 2 million trees planted without dates, so those are not recorded as metrics. The 9,191 seedlings are one project, not an annual total. The most recent published annual report covers 2022-23.
