## About

Graine de Vie is a Belgian non-profit founded in 2009 that sets up village tree nurseries in Madagascar, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Senegal, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Each nursery is run by local associations and produces forest, fruit and income trees that are given free to villagers and schools, alongside national park protection, mangrove restoration and environmental education. The organization reports more than 73 million trees planted since 2009 and a large-scale restoration project of 10,000 hectares at Moba in the DRC.

Its 2025 annual report counts 376 nurseries in nine African countries, while the 'Nos réalisations' page lists 355 nurseries in eight countries; the website also gives 1,235 jobs created in Africa while the Earth Day 2026 page says 760 local jobs in 376 nurseries. The 3.76 million seedlings a year figure is this directory's derivation from the nursery count and the stated 10,000-plant nursery design, not a published total. In January 2023 the organization announced it was reducing its Madagascar activity by one third.
