## About

Copaíba is a Brazilian nonprofit founded in 1999 in Socorro, São Paulo, that conserves and restores the Atlantic Forest in the Peixe and Camanducaia river basins. Its forest nursery, founded in 2001 and expanded in 2024 to a capacity of 1 million seedlings a year, grows more than 160 native species from seed collected in local forest fragments. It restores degraded land and springs with landowners, monitors planted areas for two years, runs environmental education and the Árvore de Presente gift-tree program, and publishes an annual report every year since 2003.

## Programs

- **Viveiro Florestal** — Nurseries & seedlings (2001–present): Native-species nursery at the Pedra Branca headquarters, founded in 2001, with installed capacity of 1 million seedlings a year after its 2024 expansion.
- **Restauração Ecológica** — Reforestation: Restores degraded land and springs on partner rural properties with technical projects, seedlings and inputs, and two years of monitoring.
- **Árvore de Presente** — Reforestation: Supporters have trees planted in their name or as gifts; Copaíba plants them in the rainy season and monitors them. https://copaiba.org.br/arvore-de-presente/
- **Educação Ambiental** — Education & advocacy: School and community programs and 'Vivências Educativas' visits to the headquarters. https://copaiba.org.br/educacao-ambiental/

## Metrics

> Note: Copaíba's 2024 annual report gives lifetime totals of more than 4 million seedlings produced, 1 million trees planted and 809 hectares restored, while its home page in late 2026 shows 4.5 million, 1.2 million and 903 hectares; both are the organization's own figures at different dates and both are recorded. The report's 101,697 seedlings planted in 2024 is the organization-wide figure; sub-program figures on later pages (70,397; 12,220; 17,000; 1,775) are components of it.
