The Forest Service funds state forestry agencies, which run their own urban forestry grant rounds for cities, tribes and nonprofits; residents benefit through those local grantees (free tree giveaways, street tree plantings, Tree City USA programs). The program has traditionally been funded at $36 to 40 million a year plus about $1 million in national challenge cost-share grants.","eligibility":"Direct funding goes to state agencies and, through them, to local governments, tribes and nonprofit organizations.
