It trains smallholder farmers in East and West Africa to plant agroforestry 'Forest Gardens', typically about one hectare of mixed trees, crops and living fences, over a four-year programme. Its 2025 impact report covers Kenya, Mali, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda and states that the Senegal and Mali projects would close by the end of 2025 with a focus shifting to East Africa.","website_url":"https://trees.org","logo_url":null,"founded_year":1989,"org_type":"nonprofit","scope":"regional","headquarters":{"city":"Silver Spring","region":"Maryland","country":"US","lat":38.9907,"lng":-77.0261},"volunteer_url":null,"donation_url":"https://trees.org/support/personal-ways-to-give","events_url":null,"featured":false,"trees_on_record":420110579,"primary_activity":"agroforestry","activities":[{"slug":"agroforestry","name":"Agroforestry","primary":true},{"slug":"education-advocacy","name":"Education & advocacy","primary":false},{"slug":"carbon-offset-planting","name":"Carbon offset planting","primary":false},{"slug":"food-forests-orchards","name":"Food forests & orchards","primary":false}],"updated_at":"2026-11-07T21:30:23.685Z","url":"https://treerm.org/org/trees-for-the-future","markdown_url":"https://treerm.org/org/trees-for-the-future.md","api_url":"https://treerm.org/api/v1/organizations/trees-for-the-future","data_note":null,"derived":{"annual_trees":[{"year":2024,"value":42516297},{"year":2025,"value":49940320}],"latest_annual":{"year":2025,"value":49940320},"yoy":0.1746159360962221,"cagr":null,"dollars_raised_per_tree":null,"cost_per_tree":null,"trees_per_volunteer":null,"survival":null,"hectares":{"value":40219,"year":2025,"cumulative":true},"transparency":{"score":39,"label":"Thin","points":[{"key":"annual","label":"Publishes annual tree figures","earned":10,"max":20,"why":"2 years of annual figures on record (5 points each, up to 4 years)"},{"key":"recent","label":"Figures are recent","earned":15,"max":15,"why":"Latest annual figure is for 2025"},{"key":"sourced","label":"Every figure has a public source","earned":10,"max":10,"why":"4 of 4 figures link to a source"},{"key":"money","label":"Publishes financials or cost per tree","earned":0,"max":15,"why":"No financial figure recorded"},{"key":"survival","label":"Reports survival or monitoring","earned":0,"max":15,"why":"No survival or monitoring figure"},{"key":"verified","label":"Independently verified figure","earned":0,"max":10,"why":"All figures are the organization's own"},{"key":"programs","label":"Breaks figures down by program","earned":4,"max":10,"why":"Programs named, figures not broken out"},{"key":"people","label":"Reports volunteers or events","earned":0,"max":5,"why":"No volunteer figures or events"}]},"methodology":"https://treerm.org/methodology"},"countries":["KE","ML","SN","TZ","UG"],"social_links":{"instagram":"https://www.instagram.com/treesforthefuture/","facebook":"https://www.facebook.com/TreesfortheFuture","linkedin":"https://www.linkedin.com/company/trees-for-the-future/","youtube":"https://www.youtube.com/@TreesForTheFuture"},"programs":[{"slug":"forest-garden","name":"Forest Garden Program","activity":"agroforestry","description":"Four-year training programme in which smallholder farmers convert roughly one hectare into a diverse agroforestry 'Forest Garden' of trees, crops and living fences.","url":"https://trees.org/","started_year":null,"ended_year":null}],"metrics":[{"metric_type":"hectares_restored","year":2025,"value":40219,"is_cumulative":true,"program":null,"source_url":"https://www.2025impact.trees.org/","source_note":"2025 impact report, 'since 1989': 40,219 hectares under restoration","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2024,"value":42516297,"is_cumulative":false,"program":null,"source_url":"https://www.trees2024impact.org/","source_note":"Sum of 2024 country figures (Kenya 19,287,869; Mali 972,492; Senegal 2,012,956; Tanzania 7,266,360; Uganda 12,976,620); the page gives no total","confidence":"estimated"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2025,"value":49940320,"is_cumulative":false,"program":null,"source_url":"https://www.2025impact.trees.org/","source_note":"2025 impact report: 'Trees Planted 2024-2025 49,940,320' (planting year 1 Jul 2024 - 30 Jun 2025)","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2025,"value":420110579,"is_cumulative":true,"program":null,"source_url":"https://www.2025impact.trees.org/","source_note":"2025 impact report, 'since 1989': 420,110,579 trees planted","confidence":"reported"}],"upcoming_events":[],"license":"CC-BY-4.0"}
