{"slug":"trees-for-life-scotland","name":"Trees for Life","tagline":"Rewilding the Scottish Highlands by restoring the Caledonian Forest","description":"Trees for Life is a Scottish charity (SC021303) founded by Alan Watson Featherstone in 1986 as a Findhorn Foundation project and registered as an independent charity in 1993; it is based at Findhorn Bay, Forres. It restores the native Caledonian Forest in Glen Affric, on its 4,100-hectare Dundreggan estate (bought in 2008, now home to a rewilding centre and tree nursery) and at partner sites, through volunteer planting weeks, natural regeneration, seed collection of rare montane species and wildlife reintroductions.","website_url":"https://treesforlife.org.uk","logo_url":null,"founded_year":1993,"org_type":"nonprofit","scope":"regional","headquarters":{"city":"Forres","region":"Moray, Scotland","country":"GB","lat":57.6093,"lng":-3.6197},"volunteer_url":"https://treesforlife.org.uk/support/volunteer/rewilding-weeks/","donation_url":"https://treesforlife.org.uk/donate/","events_url":"https://treesforlife.org.uk/support/volunteer/rewilding-weeks/","featured":false,"trees_on_record":2000000,"primary_activity":"reforestation","activities":[{"slug":"reforestation","name":"Reforestation","primary":true},{"slug":"nursery-seedling-production","name":"Nurseries & seedlings","primary":false},{"slug":"seed-collection","name":"Seed collection","primary":false},{"slug":"research-monitoring","name":"Research & monitoring","primary":false}],"updated_at":"2026-11-07T21:30:23.685Z","url":"https://treerm.org/org/trees-for-life-scotland","markdown_url":"https://treerm.org/org/trees-for-life-scotland.md","api_url":"https://treerm.org/api/v1/organizations/trees-for-life-scotland","countries":["GB"],"social_links":{"instagram":"https://instagram.com/treesforlifeuk","facebook":"https://facebook.com/treesforlifeuk","linkedin":"https://linkedin.com/company/trees-for-life","youtube":"https://youtube.com/user/Dundreggan"},"programs":[{"slug":"dundreggan","name":"Dundreggan estate","activity":"reforestation","description":"4,100-hectare Highland estate in Glenmoriston bought in 2008 for forest restoration, now home to the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre and tree nursery.","url":"https://treesforlife.org.uk/about-us/annual-review-2024-25/","started_year":2008,"ended_year":null},{"slug":"tree-seed-collection","name":"Tree Seed Collection Project","activity":"seed-collection","description":"Volunteers collect seed from rare native species in surviving ancient woodland and rainforest fragments;
