It works with rural farming families in nine countries (Burundi, DR Congo, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Haiti, Malawi, Mexico, Tanzania, Thailand) through 'Purpose Groups' that combine savings-and-loan groups, farmer-to-farmer training in regenerative agriculture and agroforestry, tree planting, and church partnerships, and it commissions a triennial external impact study.","website_url":"https://plantwithpurpose.org","logo_url":null,"founded_year":1984,"org_type":"nonprofit","scope":"global","headquarters":{"city":"San Diego","region":"California","country":"US","lat":32.7157,"lng":-117.1611},"volunteer_url":"https://plantwithpurpose.org/volunteer/","donation_url":"https://plantwithpurpose.org/give/","events_url":null,"featured":false,"trees_on_record":90239181,"primary_activity":"agroforestry","activities":[{"slug":"agroforestry","name":"Agroforestry","primary":true},{"slug":"reforestation","name":"Reforestation","primary":false},{"slug":"education-advocacy","name":"Education & advocacy","primary":false},{"slug":"food-forests-orchards","name":"Food forests & orchards","primary":false}],"updated_at":"2026-11-07T21:30:23.685Z","url":"https://treerm.org/org/plant-with-purpose","markdown_url":"https://treerm.org/org/plant-with-purpose.md","api_url":"https://treerm.org/api/v1/organizations/plant-with-purpose","data_note":null,"derived":{"annual_trees":[{"year":2019,"value":5000000}],"latest_annual":{"year":2019,"value":5000000},"yoy":null,"cagr":null,"dollars_raised_per_tree":null,"cost_per_tree":null,"trees_per_volunteer":null,"survival":null,"hectares":null,"transparency":{"score":19,"label":"Opaque","points":[{"key":"annual","label":"Publishes annual tree figures","earned":5,"max":20,"why":"1 year of annual figures on record (5 points each, up to 4 years)"},{"key":"recent","label":"Figures are recent","earned":0,"max":15,"why":"Latest annual figure is for 2019"},{"key":"sourced","label":"Every figure has a public source","earned":10,"max":10,"why":"4 of 4 figures link to a source"},{"key":"money","label":"Publishes financials or cost per tree","earned":0,"max":15,"why":"No financial figure recorded"},{"key":"survival","label":"Reports survival or monitoring","earned":0,"max":15,"why":"No survival or monitoring figure"},{"key":"verified","label":"Independently verified figure","earned":0,"max":10,"why":"All figures are the organization's own"},{"key":"programs","label":"Breaks figures down by program","earned":4,"max":10,"why":"Programs named, figures not broken out"},{"key":"people","label":"Reports volunteers or events","earned":0,"max":5,"why":"No volunteer figures or events"}]},"methodology":"https://treerm.org/methodology"},"countries":["BI","CD","DO","ET","HT","MW","MX","TH","TZ"],"social_links":{"x":"https://twitter.com/plantwpurpose","instagram":"https://www.instagram.com/plantwpurpose/","facebook":"https://www.facebook.com/plantwithpurpose","linkedin":"https://www.linkedin.com/company/plant-with-purpose/","youtube":"https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_bnkCq4GX13l8bvLPJKoRA"},"programs":[{"slug":"purpose-groups","name":"Purpose Groups","activity":"agroforestry","description":"Community groups combining savings-and-lending, farmer-to-farmer training in regenerative agriculture, tree planting and church partnership.","url":"https://plantwithpurpose.org/","started_year":null,"ended_year":null}],"metrics":[{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2019,"value":5000000,"is_cumulative":false,"program":null,"source_url":"https://plantwithpurpose.org/?p=14743","source_note":"Blog post, 17 Jan 2020, on fiscal year 2019: 'We were able to plant five million trees'","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2021,"value":40000000,"is_cumulative":true,"program":null,"source_url":"https://plantwithpurpose.org/40-millionth-tree/","source_note":"Blog post, 14 April 2021: 'recently planted its 40 millionth tree'","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2025,"value":76600000,"is_cumulative":true,"program":null,"source_url":"https://plantwithpurpose.org/stories/why-do-we-plant-trees/","source_note":"Blog post 'Why Do We Plant Trees?': 'Farmers who partner with Plant With Purpose have planted 76.6 million trees to date' and 'projected to plant another 11 million in fiscal year 2026'; post is undated (image uploaded April 2025), so dated spring 2025","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2026,"value":90239181,"is_cumulative":true,"program":null,"source_url":"https://plantwithpurpose.org/","source_note":"Sum of per-country 'trees planted' counters on the homepage, read Nov 2026 (Burundi 11,758,914; DR Congo 9,348,437; Dominican Republic 27,718,428; Ethiopia 4,881,557; Haiti 9,291,279; Malawi 527,348; Mexico 1,469,333; Tanzania 21,263,497; Thailand 3,980,388); the headline counter did not render.
