Its Community Forestry program plants free native trees in public rights-of-way at the request of residents, in partnership with the City of Indianapolis, Citizens Energy Group, AES Indiana and the Arbor Day Foundation; a 10,000-tree stormwater partnership with Citizens begun in 2017 reached its 10,000th tree on Arbor Day 2024. KIB also builds pocket-park GreenSpaces on vacant lots, restores native habitat with its Urban Naturalists, employs a summer Youth Tree Team to water and mulch young trees, and runs the Adopt-A-Block and Great Indy Cleanup litter programs. In 2025 it planted 3,491 trees and cared for 9,775 more with more than 20,000 volunteers across Marion County.","website_url":"https://www.kibi.org","logo_url":null,"founded_year":1976,"org_type":"nonprofit","scope":"local","headquarters":{"city":"Indianapolis","region":"Indiana","country":"US","lat":39.7684,"lng":-86.1581},"volunteer_url":"https://www.kibi.org/volunteer/projects/","donation_url":"https://www.kibi.org/donate/","events_url":"https://www.kibi.org/volunteer/projects/","featured":false,"trees_on_record":8523,"primary_activity":"urban-forestry","activities":[{"slug":"urban-forestry","name":"Urban forestry","primary":true},{"slug":"tree-care-maintenance","name":"Tree care & maintenance","primary":false},{"slug":"education-advocacy","name":"Education & advocacy","primary":false}],"updated_at":"2026-11-08T00:02:16.194Z","url":"https://treerm.org/org/keep-indianapolis-beautiful","markdown_url":"https://treerm.org/org/keep-indianapolis-beautiful.md","api_url":"https://treerm.org/api/v1/organizations/keep-indianapolis-beautiful","data_note":"KIB's tree totals cover all of its programs, including trees given away through Adopt-A-Block and planted in GreenSpaces and habitat sites, not only street-tree plantings; the Community Forestry program alone planted 2,229 of the 2,803 trees in 2024.
