{"slug":"justdiggit","name":"Justdiggit","tagline":"Regreening degraded drylands in Africa with water bunds, grass seed banks and tree regeneration","description":"Justdiggit (Stichting Justdiggit Foundation) is an Amsterdam-based Dutch foundation started in 2013, with its first pilot in Kenya in 2015. Rather than planting seedlings, it works with farmers and local partners in Kenya, Tanzania and Senegal to dig semi-circular rainwater bunds, establish grass seed banks and regenerate trees from existing root stock (farmer-managed natural regeneration), and runs public awareness campaigns in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the UK. It reports 82 employees and publishes annual reports back to 2013.","website_url":"https://justdiggit.org","logo_url":null,"founded_year":2013,"org_type":"nonprofit","scope":"regional","headquarters":{"city":"Amsterdam","region":"North Holland","country":"NL","lat":52.3676,"lng":4.9041},"volunteer_url":"https://justdiggit.org/dig-in/","donation_url":"https://justdiggit.org/donate/","events_url":null,"featured":false,"trees_on_record":32300000,"primary_activity":"reforestation","activities":[{"slug":"reforestation","name":"Reforestation","primary":true},{"slug":"agroforestry","name":"Agroforestry","primary":false},{"slug":"education-advocacy","name":"Education & advocacy","primary":false}],"updated_at":"2026-11-07T21:30:23.685Z","url":"https://treerm.org/org/justdiggit","markdown_url":"https://treerm.org/org/justdiggit.md","api_url":"https://treerm.org/api/v1/organizations/justdiggit","countries":["KE","SN","TZ"],"social_links":{"instagram":"https://www.instagram.com/justdiggit/","facebook":"https://www.facebook.com/justdiggit","linkedin":"https://www.linkedin.com/company/justdiggit/","youtube":"https://www.youtube.com/@Justdiggit"},"programs":[],"metrics":[{"metric_type":"hectares_restored","year":2025,"value":525000,"is_cumulative":true,"program":null,"source_url":"https://justdiggit.org/what-we-do/impact/","source_note":"'We are restoring 525 thousand hectares of dry, degraded land' (area under restoration)","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2025,"value":32300000,"is_cumulative":true,"program":null,"source_url":"https://justdiggit.org/what-we-do/impact/","source_note":"'We brought back 32.3 million trees in seven years' (regenerated from root stock, not planted seedlings)","confidence":"reported"}],"upcoming_events":[],"license":"CC-BY-4.0"}
