{"slug":"greenpop","name":"Greenpop","tagline":"Forest restoration, urban greening and environmental education in Southern Africa","description":"Greenpop Foundation NPC is a Cape Town-based nonprofit that has planted trees since 2010 and works in Sub-Saharan Africa, with projects in South Africa, Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania. Its landscape restoration work includes the Uilenkraal Valley forest restoration project near Gansbaai, running since 2011, and its urban greening portfolio plants trees at schools and community sites. It also runs the annual Reforest Fest planting festival and education programs. Greenpop publishes annual reports with program-level tree counts rather than a single consolidated total.","website_url":"https://greenpop.org","logo_url":null,"founded_year":2010,"org_type":"nonprofit","scope":"regional","headquarters":{"city":"Cape Town","region":"Western Cape","country":"ZA","lat":-33.9249,"lng":18.4241},"volunteer_url":"https://greenpop.org/about-us/our-team/voluteers","donation_url":"https://greenpop.org/donate","events_url":"https://www.greenpop.org/our-work/events","featured":false,"trees_on_record":318000,"primary_activity":"reforestation","activities":[{"slug":"reforestation","name":"Reforestation","primary":true},{"slug":"urban-forestry","name":"Urban forestry","primary":false},{"slug":"education-advocacy","name":"Education & advocacy","primary":false},{"slug":"food-forests-orchards","name":"Food forests & orchards","primary":false}],"updated_at":"2026-11-07T21:30:23.685Z","url":"https://treerm.org/org/greenpop","markdown_url":"https://treerm.org/org/greenpop.md","api_url":"https://treerm.org/api/v1/organizations/greenpop","countries":["MW","TZ","ZA","ZM"],"social_links":{"instagram":"https://www.instagram.com/greenpopsa/","facebook":"https://www.facebook.com/Greenpop/","linkedin":"https://www.linkedin.com/company/greenpop","youtube":"https://www.youtube.com/@GreenpopTreevolution"},"programs":[{"slug":"landscape-restoration","name":"Landscape Restoration","activity":"reforestation","description":"Restores degraded forest and fynbos landscapes with partner landowners, including the Uilenkraal Valley project near Gansbaai running since 2011 and projects in Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania.","url":"https://greenpop.org/our-work/landscape-restoration","started_year":2011,"ended_year":null},{"slug":"urban-greening","name":"Urban Greening","activity":"urban-forestry","description":"Plants trees and creates green spaces at schools and community sites in under-greened urban areas, including Heineken Green Zones and the Living Landscapes programme.","url":"https://greenpop.org/our-work/urban-greening","started_year":2010,"ended_year":null},{"slug":"reforest-fest","name":"Reforest Fest and Festivals of Action","activity":"education-advocacy","description":"Annual volunteer planting festival in the Overberg combining tree planting with workshops and training for restoration practitioners.","url":null,"started_year":2011,"ended_year":null}],"metrics":[{"metric_type":"hectares_restored","year":2026,"value":175,"is_cumulative":true,"program":null,"source_url":"https://greenpop.org/","source_note":"Homepage impact block: '175 hectares brought under restoration'","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2026,"value":318000,"is_cumulative":true,"program":null,"source_url":"https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/684a99efba2c25b2b75eefc2/6ac87a3fef006f15abd07f51_Greenpop%20Annual%20Report%20-%20202526%20final%20lr.pdf","source_note":"Derived: 291K landscape restoration trees (p.6) plus 27K urban greening trees (p.13) from the 2025/2026 Year in Review; the report gives no single consolidated total","confidence":"estimated"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2026,"value":291000,"is_cumulative":true,"program":"landscape-restoration","source_url":"https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/684a99efba2c25b2b75eefc2/6ac87a3fef006f15abd07f51_Greenpop%20Annual%20Report%20-%20202526%20final%20lr.pdf","source_note":"Derived: 291K landscape restoration trees (p.6, 'Since 2011') plus 27K urban greening trees (p.13, 'Since 2010') from the 2025/2026 Year in Review; both figures re-read from the PDF on 2026-11-07.
