{"slug":"casey-trees","name":"Casey Trees","tagline":"Washington, DC nonprofit planting and protecting trees across the National Capital Region","description":"Casey Trees is a Washington, DC nonprofit founded in 2001 by philanthropist Betty Brown Casey with an endowment that still covers roughly half of its operating expenses. It plants trees for residents, schools, and community groups in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, prioritizing low-canopy wards, and grows its own stock at a 730-acre tree farm in Berryville, Virginia. The organization also runs youth education, a tree rebate program, invasive vine removal, policy advocacy, and an accredited land trust.","website_url":"https://caseytrees.org","logo_url":null,"founded_year":2001,"org_type":"nonprofit","scope":"regional","headquarters":{"city":"Washington","region":"District of Columbia","country":"US","lat":38.9072,"lng":-77.0369},"volunteer_url":"https://caseytrees.org/get-involved/volunteer-events/","donation_url":"https://give.caseytrees.org/campaign/676933/donate?c_src=Website&c_src2=DonateButton","events_url":"https://caseytrees.org/get-involved/volunteer-events/","featured":false,"trees_on_record":70000,"primary_activity":"urban-forestry","activities":[{"slug":"urban-forestry","name":"Urban forestry","primary":true},{"slug":"nursery-seedling-production","name":"Nurseries & seedlings","primary":false},{"slug":"tree-care-maintenance","name":"Tree care & maintenance","primary":false},{"slug":"education-advocacy","name":"Education & advocacy","primary":false}],"updated_at":"2026-11-07T21:30:23.685Z","url":"https://treerm.org/org/casey-trees","markdown_url":"https://treerm.org/org/casey-trees.md","api_url":"https://treerm.org/api/v1/organizations/casey-trees","countries":["US"],"social_links":{},"programs":[{"slug":"tree-planting","name":"Tree planting","activity":"urban-forestry","description":"Plants trees for residents, schools, and community groups across DC, Maryland, and Virginia, prioritizing low-canopy wards.","url":null,"started_year":null,"ended_year":null},{"slug":"casey-tree-farm","name":"Casey Tree Farm","activity":"nursery-seedling-production","description":"730-acre farm in Berryville, Virginia growing trees for Casey Trees plantings and other jurisdictions.","url":null,"started_year":null,"ended_year":null},{"slug":"education","name":"Education","activity":"education-advocacy","description":"Youth education in DC schools, camps, and the Urban Forestry Fellowship.","url":null,"started_year":null,"ended_year":null},{"slug":"tree-care","name":"Tree care and invasive vine removal","activity":"tree-care-maintenance","description":"Pruning, tree care events, and volunteer invasive vine removal with partners.","url":null,"started_year":null,"ended_year":null}],"metrics":[{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2025,"value":7262,"is_cumulative":false,"program":null,"source_url":"https://caseytrees.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/FY25-Impact-Report-Casey-Trees.pdf","source_note":"FY25 Impact Report (Jul 2024 - Jun 2025): 'We planted 7,262 trees total' (DC 3,773; MD 3,385; VA 104); unaudited totals","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2024,"value":60000,"is_cumulative":true,"program":null,"source_url":"https://caseytrees.org/2024/12/2024-our-impact-by-the-numbers/","source_note":"2024 impact post (Dec 23 2024): 'We celebrated the planting of our 60,000th tree this year'","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2026,"value":70000,"is_cumulative":true,"program":null,"source_url":"https://caseytrees.org/about/","source_note":"About page: 'more than 70,000 trees' planted since 2001 (accessed Nov 2026)","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"volunteers_engaged","year":2025,"value":4000,"is_cumulative":false,"program":null,"source_url":"https://caseytrees.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/FY25-Impact-Report-Casey-Trees.pdf","source_note":"FY25 Impact Report: 'Engaged with over 4,000 volunteers'","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"seedlings_produced","year":2025,"value":9500,"is_cumulative":false,"program":"casey-tree-farm","source_url":"https://caseytrees.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/FY25-Impact-Report-Casey-Trees.pdf","source_note":"FY25 Impact Report: 'Harvested and sent over 9,500 trees' from the Casey Tree Farm to DC and other jurisdictions (nursery-grown trees, not seedlings)","confidence":"reported"}],"upcoming_events":[],"license":"CC-BY-4.0"}
